Swedish Sauna

About Our Swedish Sauna

After 10-20 minutes – just when the heat becomes uncomfortable – it is customary to jump into a lake or swimming pool or to take a shower, or one of the very handy, custom built, Unit 27 Ice Baths. After a short rest one goes back to the hot room and begins the cycle again, according to you personal preference.

Sauna and its health benefits

Sauna works on the principle of generating abundant sweat to detoxify the body and relax the mind. Regular sauna use can bring a number of health advantages – some of them are listed below:

  • Glowing healthy skin – blood flow to the skin increases during a sauna session. With more essential nutrients being available to subcutaneous and surface tissue, the quality of the skin gradually improves.
  • Detoxification – the heat releases poisons and heavy metals beneath the skin so that they can be purged through respiration. In this day and age most people are exposed to toxins every day. Toxic chemicals are abundantly present in our food and environment, so it seems reasonable to aid the detoxification process with the regular use of sauna.
  • Hyperthermia – exposure to the high heat creates an artificial fever state. Fever stimulates the body’s natural healing process. As a result, your immune system will produce greater numbers of disease fighting white blood cells and antibodies to eliminate viruses and other pathogens.

Furthermore, sauna therapy relaxes muscles and inhibits sympathetic nervous activity. Regular sauna users say that a “good sweat” provides and opportunity to indulge in positive thoughts and escape from everyday troubles.

With that said, there are several safety precautions that you should always follow:

  • Do not stay in the hot room for more than 30 minutes
  • Allow adequate time for rest after leaving the sauna
  • Drink sufficient amount of water to replenish lost fluids and minerals
  • Be sure to remove contact lenses before entering sauna
  • Drinking alcohol in the sauna is not recommended
  • Pregnant women should avoid sauna and steam-baths altogether

If you are in reasonable health, the benefits of sauna and steam-baths far outweigh any hazards. Follow the aforementioned guidelines and include sauna as part of your lifestyle. You’ll experience a level of renewal that is hard to surpass.

Protein Powder

There is a lot of misconceptions around protein supplements but regardless of goal, training frequency, current body fat, gender, a protein powder may be a good addition to you diet. The most common things I get asked to do with protein powder is how much, when to use it, and what type. Before asking if you need a protein powder you need to know what your current protein intake is and what your protein intake should be in relationship to your goals. If you don’t know the answer to either of those questions, then working that out would be more beneficial than just buying a protein powder and hoping for the best. A good protein [...]

Unit-27, Phuket, Thailand - Songkran Final Photo

Songkran Workout!

Songkran is something that those of us who have been blessed enough to call Thailand home for a long duration of time know what to expect every year. However, Unit-27 is so blessed to show those who are new to Thailand every year what it's all about, and that's all about having fun, and really throwing yourself into the culture of Thailand. It's Thailands most famous festival, an incredibly important event on the buddhist calendar and marks the beginning of the traditional Thai New Year! Unit-27 is renowned for throwing a good competition, but this year, we really out did ourselves, with 4 incredibly (probably oversized) "floaties", [...]

10 Lean Habits!

Lean, strong, fit and healthy people share these common habits. It’s not luck or genetics, it’s just a series of daily choices. These choices, once integrated with your lifestyle develop into a subconscious habit which in turn keeps you lean. Pick at least 8 of these habits below and practice them daily to get lean and (most importantly) stay lean. Getting lean can be easy. You can follow a boring, restrictive meal plan for 8-12 weeks, with little understanding of how or why you’re getting leaner. Then when the diet ‘finishes’ you go back to your previous habits and with it comes the weight gain. Sound familiar? Read [...]
